My story begins with my very first visit to Holbox Island. I was instantly captivated by its laid-back, no-frills atmosphere. The island, just 26 miles long and one mile wide, offers a unique blend of sandy streets, colorful buildings, and the ubiquitous golf carts that serve as the primary mode of transportation. But what truly stole my heart was the sense of community that permeated every corner of the island.From the moment I arrived, it felt like everyone knew me, and I, in turn, felt like I had found my second home. Holbox was unlike anywhere I had ever been. Little did I know that this enchanting island would become my refuge during the global upheaval caused by the pandemic.The Decision to Stay
When COVID-19 began to spread worldwide, I was on my second visit to Holbox. As the situation escalated, I contemplated returning to the United States, where I had a job and a life waiting for me. But a conversation with my cousin changed everything. She reminded me that there was no rush to leave paradise, and that's when it hit me: Why not stay a bit longer, embrace this unique opportunity, and truly immerse myself in the island's culture?One of my initial concerns was the availability of stable internet connections for remote work.
